July 2007 - Unlicensed Activity Awareness and Clean Air
Unlicensed Activity
This month, DCA begins an initiative to crack down on unlicensed activity within the professions and businesses we license.
Consumers who use unlicensed professionals may think they're getting a good deal. In fact, using unlicensed professionals can lead to serious problems.
DCA would like to remind consumers to always check the licenses of the professionals they are considering hiring. You can do that at our License Lookup Page. You can also see what types of businesses and professions we license.
Cleaner Air
Summer is upon us, and with it smoggy days that remind us of the importance of the need to improve California's air quality.
Cleaner air and a cleaner environment are among Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's top priorities. DCA's Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) oversees California's Smog Check program, which helps remove nearly 400 tons of pollution from California's air every day.
One way to help clean up California's air is to retire your high-polluting vehicle that has failed its Smog Check. Qualified motorists can also get state help in repairing their high-polluting vehicles. Learn more about BAR's Breathe Easier campaign. See if you qualify or obtain an application to repair or retire your vehicle.
Every little bit helps when it comes to cleaner air. As the Federal Highway Administration says, "It all adds up to cleaner air."
Burning less fuel also helps reduce air pollution.
More and more cleaner vehicles are on the road in California. Click here to learn more about fuel efficient vehicles.
The federal government has more information about fuel economy and fuel efficient vehicles.

Saving energy helps clean the air and saves you money, too. Check out California's Flex Your Power Web site.
The California Energy Commission's Consumer Energy Center also has a wealth of information about reducing energy use.
If you want to do more for cleaner air for California, you may wish to get involved with the Coalition for Cleaner Air. They have a list of organizations working for cleaner air.
