Lemon Law
The California Lemon Law applies to new vehicles sold or leased in California. The vehicles must be covered under the manufacturer's original vehicle warranty. If the dealer or manufacturer is unable to fix a warranty issue after at least two or more attempts, they must either replace the vehicle or refund its purchase price.
Arbitration Certification Program
The Arbitration Certification Program (ACP) certifies and monitors arbitration programs that assist consumers and manufacturers in resolving warranty disputes. These programs must follow California’s laws and regulations.
One of ACP’s goals is to resolve warranty disputes through informal arbitration, which is much faster than the court process and is cost-free to consumers.

Not all vehicle manufacturers have a state certified arbitration process. Consumers may wish to try mediation through the New Motor Vehicle Board (NMVB). NMVB mediates disputes between consumers and new car dealers and manufacturers via their Consumer Mediation Services Program. NMVB has jurisdiction over a wide range of vehicles including passenger vehicles, heavyduty trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, and recreational vehicles. They may be reached via phone at (916) 445-1888.
